in reality they had none.

As to the manner of Christ's death - crucifixion, this meant not only a peculiarly painful death but also

a SHAMEFUL AND HUMILIATING one (Hebrews 12:2; Philippians 2:5-8). This stands in contrast

to the EXALTATION which Satan offered to Eve: " Ye will be as God "(Genesis 3:5). Crucifixion itself

involved being lifted up (The lifting up was typified by the lifting up of the brazen serpent in the wilderness

(John 3:14), and this in itself is a reminder of the serpent in Eden.) and hung on a tree (1 Peter 2:24),

reminder of the tree from which Adam and Eve took the forbidden fruit. As with this tree, so with that -

both had a central place: " Jesus in the middle " (John 19;18: compare Genesis 3:3). It may be noted here

that Christ also had the central place in resurrection (John 20:19 and Luke 24:36; compare Genesis 2:9).

As to the condition in which Christ was crucified, it was one of nakedness : his clothes were taken

from Him (John 19:23/24). Think indeed of the shamefulness of this considering who Christ was - the Son

of God. However, is it not intended to remind us of the naked condition in which Adam and Eve found

themselves after they had sinned (Genesis 3:7), or was it just coincidence ?

As to the detail of the crucifixion, Christ had his HANDS nailed to the cross (John 20:25), reminder

that Eve sinned with her hands: " She TOOK of its fruit and ATE " (Genesis 3:6). As to the eating it is to be

noticed that Christ suffered in his MOUTH, hence He said " I thirst " (John 19:28). Prophetically Psalm

22:15 refers to this saying: " My tongue cleaveth to my palate ".

However, Christ's sufferings went deeper than this. The punishment meted out to Eve was one of

travail and pain in childbirth (Genesis 3:16). Prophetically Christ is spoken of as having TRAVAIL and

being subjected to SUFFERING, yet seeing a " seed " as a result (Isaiah 53:10/11). Was all this coincidence ?

And was it coincidence that Eve - the one who led Adam into sin - came from his side (Genesis 2:21/

22), while Christ had his side pierced (John 19:34) ? Note: The word translated rib in Genesis

2:21/22 is only so translated there in A.V; it is 19 times translated side (see Youngs concordance).

When we come to the burial and resurrection of Christ we find that these took place in a garden
