speaks of any such second or resurrected creation; neither for that matter do scientists who study the rocks.

Revelation 21:1 speaks of the present creation as being "the FIRST heaven and the FIRST earth"

(2) It effectively brings sin and death into the world before Adam sinned, though no doubt it would be

argued against this that we are speaking of two different worlds and that Scripture in speaking of the

introduction of sin into the world (Romans 5:12) is only referring to the Adamic world and does not mean

that sin could not have previously existed in a world peopled by fallen angelic beings. However, the

existence of such a world on this present earth appears to be pure speculation.

(2) The first day theory

According to this the first day began when God created the heavens and the earth and included the

time when it was waste and empty and darkness covered the face of the deep, as well as the time when God

created the light and separated it from the darkness. The justification for this explanation is that it brings

everything in Genesis 1 within the six days of creation mentioned in Exodus 20:11.

The objections to this theory could well be:-

(1) It makes God create the earth waste and empty which Isaiah 45:18 specifically states he did not.

(2) All the following five days begin with the words "and God said". It is possible that the first day is an

exception, but I am not aware of any reason why it should be. There is an "and God said" before the

creation of light, which is where I believe the first day begins.

(3) It does not give us any reason why the earth was waste and empty, why darkness covered the face of the

deep or why the spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

(4) It effectively makes two creations of the heavens; once in verse 1 and then again in verses 6 to 8.

Similarly, it makes two creations of the earth; once in verse 1 and then again in verses 9 and 10.

It can, indeed, be argued that the earth in verse 1 refers to the globe (Job 26:27) and the earth

appearing on the third day is simply that part of the solid globe that stands above sea level (Psalm 24:2).

Similarly, it can be said that the heavens in verse 1 is simply stellar space and the heavens created on the

second day is the atmosphere. I have heard it then said that there are three heavens; (1) the atmosphere, (2)
