THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD

Foreword

The subject of the following pages is the Holy Spirit of God. In Scripture he is often spoken of as the Holy

Spirit or simply the Spirit, and at other times as the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Jehovah or the Spirit of the
Lord. Some other alternative terms are the Spirit of Jesus and the Spirit of Christ. The word of God is living and
there is a free use of terms as appropriate to the context. Scripture does not get into a rut. The full title as given
above appears in Ephesians 4:30.

The object of writing is to ascertain what Scripture really teaches as to the Holy Spirit, particularly Who and

What he is. There is no pretension to have said the last word on the subject. So much that is often put out as to
the Holy Spirit is simply either an attempt to defend orthodoxy, or the ideas propounded betray scepticism as to
the word of God, which means in both cases that practically there is no honest attempt to learn from Scripture.
